The grand finale of The Budo League Season 7, an alumni league for former students of King’s College Budo, promises an exciting climax as teams vie for top honours.
The finale was announced during a press conference held at Legends Rugby Club ahead of the grand finale this Sunday, July 28th, at Legends Rugby Club.
Sponsored by Guinness, the league has seen remarkable support and enthusiasm from fans and players alike. Aaron Akampa, The Budo League President stated that this season has been a fiercely competitive season.
“This has been a really competitive season with the top 7 teams separated by 7 points and Massape (Class of 04) emerging as regular season winners. Fortunately, the drama goes to the Grand Finale with the main cup playoffs played between the top 4 where the TBL Season 7 champions will be crowned, and the teams that finish 5th to 8th will compete for the 2nd tier George Semivule Cup,” said Akampa.
The regular season champions, Massape Class of 2004, have dominated the Budo League for the past two seasons, and the odds are overwhelmingly in their favour once again as teams prepare for Season 7’s finale.
Lennon Ssemuwemba, the top scorer and current league MVP, expressed his thoughts on the season and his team’s goals. “This season has been tough, and teams that have previously not performed well came out a lot more organized and have been consistent throughout the season. Our goal as Endgame is to win the 2nd Tier George Semivule Cup and leave happy with a trophy on the day.”
Akampa added, “The TBL Grand Finale this Sunday has something for everyone. The football will be amazing, Fik Fameica and Kohen Jaycee will be performing, and Fem DJ will be entertaining us on the day. There will be games, family activities, and plenty of fun. A special thank you to Guinness for making it all possible.”
For Uganda Breweries Limited, UBL, the Old Boys Leagues and Guinness are a perfect match hence the solid relationship between the two.
“Our commitment to the Budo League goes beyond just this season. Guinness is dedicated to supporting this league for the long term, nurturing local sports, and growing a stronger community. We look forward to future collaborations and continuing our support for this league,” said Patience Aguti, Project Manager UBL.
Yodith Angsom, the General Manager at Legends also welcomed everyone to the venue, highlighting the long-standing partnership with The Budo League. “We are proud to be associated with The Budo League for the last five years and look forward to hosting this spectacular event on Sunday.”
Adding to the excitement, there will also be an opportunity for players, guests and adventure seekers to sign up and register for the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 24th.
